    Is it correct to say..?

    Hi, Teachers!
I am writing an autobiography (school project) but I'm stuck with grammar.
Here is my question. Is it correct to say "I've always been a perfectionist, trying to do my best whatever I WAS DOING"?
    Please, advise.
    Best regards,
    the Wanderer

I would put a comma before "whatever."
