    ensure that + tense?

    What is the difference between the two tenses in the pair of sentences below?

    The simple present 'take' may refer to 'repeated actions' mentioned on http://www.englishpage.com/verbpage/simplepresent.html USE 1 Repeated Actions

    Not a teacher.

    For the first, I don't know the context, but it would be unusual for anyone to be able to ensure that one has taken the right action in the past. Your second is fine. It points to the future.

    You can assure someone that they have taken the right action in the past (if they have), but it's too late to ensure it.
