The first player must always throw the piece

    Hi teachers,

I presume you know what Connect Four is. I often play this game online and write about its best moves.

The first player must always throw the piece on to the middle slot at his very first turn. Is the use of "on to" correct?

    "Some Puzzles"

(I'll post an image and then I'll write this:)

    Puzzle No. 1
In this situation, If the second player throws the piece on to the 4th or 7th slot, then the only best or winning slot for the first player is 5th. Is it correct?

    Thanks

Re: The first player must always throw the piece

I have never played the game online, but if I was referring to the actual game, I would say that "The first player must always drop his piece [counter?] into the middle slot..."
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....
