    Generalisaiton & the articles

Hello, I am translating an abstract into English, and wonder which one of the two titles below is correct.

The role of the nurse in the surgical clinic

The role of nurses in surgical clinics

This is still a big topic for me - generalisation & the articles, so I would be really grateful if some teacher could explain me if these two phrases mean exactly the same thing, or if there are some differences between them.

    Thank you very much.

    Re: Generalisaiton & the articles

The first is the better choice, as it is more theoretical. The second might be concrete, but then you may need it to be rewritten:

The various roles of nurses in surgeries

This is still a big topic for me - generalisation and [Ampersands are not standard and are only used in special cases.] the articles - [Phrase enclosures should always match: two commas, two dashes, two brackets, two quotation marks, two parentheses. You can't have a dash on the left and a comma on the right.] so I would be really grateful if some teacher could explain me if these two phrases mean exactly the same thing [Again, no comma. In a series of two, there is no punctuation before the article.] or if there are some differences between them.

    Thank you very much.
All of Konu's remarks are good and point out some interesting subtleties of English. However, both of your titles would work. The choice is a matter of personal preference, experience, and the preference of your editor, if you have one.

You might also like knowing that the American English spelling is generalization, with a z, which we call zee, not zed.

Isobela, there is no need to write a new post just to say "Thank you" or to quote our replies back to us. It makes us think there is new information or a follow-up question and we spend time opening the thread. Simply click on the "Thank" button at the bottom left-hand corner of any post you find helpful.
