    Rhyming Words

    Question if you please.

A few friends and I disagree on whether or not 'Phobio' and 'Rodeo' Rhyme.

    Thoughts?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Re: Rhyming Words

No they don't rhyme. If such a word as "Phodio" existed, then it would rhyme with "Rodeo" - so long as "Rodeo" was pronounced as "Rodio", and not as "Rodayo".
Similarly, a word such as "Robio" would rhyme with "Phobio". In other words, the latter part of the word must sound the same in order to rhyme.
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....

    Re: Rhyming Words

    Welcome to the forums, Panther.

True rhyming words are 'lotion' and 'motion', 'carol' and 'barrel', 'garden' and 'pardon', 'cygnet' and 'signet' etc.

I can't find 'phobio' in any dictionary, but it is not an exact or pure rhyme for 'rodeo'.

If we decide that the criterion for rhyming words is that the last two syllables sound the same, then phobio (whatever that means), rodeo, audio, cameo, radio. curio and patio could all be said to rhyme.

Words of more than three syllable with the same two homophonic final syllables are Pinocchio, Ontario, adagio and pistachio.
