    Different Meanings Of "IN"

A question about the meaning of "in":

    1. "The law in the way it applies to education does not affect this school."
    2. "He display courage in the way he handled the situation."

Is the "in" in the first sentence the same as the "in" in the second sentence?

Yes, I'd say so. Someone might find a minor conceptual difference, but it hardly matters. You could write them as:
"The way in which the law applies to education does not affect this school."
"The way in which he handled the situation displayed courage."
