the air of the country or the air in the city?

The air in the country is cleaner than the air of the city. (Quoted from a dictionary)
Can we say the air of the country or the air in the city?
    I need native speakers' help.

I wouldn't use "the air of the country" but "the air in the city" would work.

Better would be "Country air is cleaner than city air".
