Here's an example of usage of the definite article with "material" nouns: Give me the cheese, please. (= the cheese which is on the table now.)
Could you give me an example of the used with abstract nouns like love etc?

Thank you, MikeNewYork, it's a very good example and I personally like it :) But I forgot to mention the fact that it's supposed to be an example for a textbook I am writing. Maybe I shouldn't have given you the word love in the first place. Could you please help me with a more "academic" one? If it's not "love", may be "friendship" or any other abstract noun?

There are many of these. Why don't you try some?

...especially as you want it to be your textbook. If we give you any help we'll want to be credited in the book and given a share of the royalties.

OK, I was afraid to look stupid. Actually I can think of quite a number of odd ones::-D

1) The pride of an ignorant person is funny. (an example with a noun+of+noun structure)
2) She has the beauty which I like in girls.
3) The pain (or just pain? I don't need grammatically ambiguous cases) in her leg is getting stronger.
4) I feel the misery....(not OF SOMETHING, as I already have a noun+OF+noun structure)...(There should be something to complete this sentence I can't think of)
The misery of this place is fine, but maybe there is something without OF?

Could you please correct the sentences if they sound unnatural?

1 sounds a bit strange for me- I don't like funny much. It might work better if you used can be instead of is. It might well be something other than funny- annoying, frustrating, etc.

Regarding your first post, there is nothing "abstract" about cheese.

Take an abstract noun and then make it very specific.
The pride the team took in its accomplishments was well-earned.
I experienced the happiness of a woman in love for the first time.
The programming on this television station seems to be directed at the dumbest people on the planet.
