Picked up vs develop/acquired a habit

First of all, is not a homework.

Is my answer correct, or is "picked up the habit of" only suitable for bad habits?

We have taken to going to the cinema on Fridays.

Correct answer: develop/acquired the habit of

I answered: picked up the habit of

    Thank you!

Re: Picked up vs develop/acquired a habit

I think "developed" or "acquired" is better in that context
