    If Ivan had stayed

Please would you correct the mistakes in my sentence.

If Ivan had stayed at home during the war, he would probably have been killed as many other men in his hometown.

    Re: If Ivan had stayed

It needs some punctuation and another verb:

If Ivan had stayed at home during the war, he would probably have been killed (as many other men in his hometown were).

    b

    PS
You can move the 'were': '... (as were many other men in his hometown).' It's a stylistic choice - no more or less grammatical than the original.
    PPS
Or you can move the whole parenthesis: '...he would probably (like many other men in his hometown) have been killed.'
