at the site of their food

Isn't "at the site of their food" a mistake for "at the sight of their food"? Or they might have looked at the place(site) where the food was.

66)Zoo staff members noticed that penguins were frequently bumping into visitors during their twice-daily feeding times. The birds would get so excited at the site of their food buckt that they would hurry across pathways without looking where they were going...

The penguins might shout 'Fish! Fish! Fish!' as they were so excited at the sight of their food bucket containing fish.
