    Which one of the following is correct.

    Which one of the following (or followings ?) is correct ?

    1) The tank has been emptied by evaporation and it needs filling with water.
    2) The tank is emptied by evaporation.........
    3) ........ and it needs filling up with water.
    4) ........ and it needs to be filled with water.
    5) ........ and it needs to be filled up with water.
    6) .........and it needs to be topped up with water,

    Hi, this is not a homework, I am writing a report explaining that the plant operators did not add this task on their check list which could result in disaster at this chemical production site..... So, I was not sure how to mention it properly, thought above mentioned sentences and needed advice.

    Hello, atiq124.
    I'd use 'fill up the tank with water'.
    (I think 'fill a tank with water' is also fine.)


    (Edit 1) 'needs filling...' sounds a bit odd to me. I'd go for #4, #5 or #6. (I'm not sure which one is the most natural.)
