the reading of the minutes to

When our club has a guest speaker, we dispense with the reading of the minutes to save time

Although I know the meaning of the sentence, in fact I yet to get what the sentence means.

Would you in a simpler way describe it?

    Thanks in advance

Re: the reading of the minutes to

When such guests come, we ignore formalities like reading the minutes (details of meetings) aloud to save time, and presumably concentrate on the guest.

    I am not a teacher.

I'm still trying to understand how one can know the meaning of a sentence, yet not get what the sentence means.

Re: the reading of the minutes to

The OP might have misunderstood the meaning of the word 'minutes'.
(I must confess that I did.)
