    sideboard=side+board?

    Hi,

    Why is that kind of furniture called sideboard? I understood what sideboard means.

    Is it a compound word? I assume that furniture need a board to put plates, bowls, etc, but how is it associated with "side"?

    Is it explainable?

    Thank you!

    I think it may be put on one side of the dinner table, so 'side' is used in its name.
