Poor thing!/ Bad Luck! and other suitable responses

What would be other suitable responses to the following (beside Poor thing! and Bad luck!)?

I have to do a lot of chores about the house. - Do you have to do the washing up? - Yes, and I have to vacuume the carpets, do the shopping and take away the rubbish (garbage). - Do you have to do the washing yourself? - Yes, that too. - Poor thing!/Bad luck!
If I were a native speaker of English, I would never shut up. :-)

Re: Poor thing!/ Bad Luck! and other suitable responses

Suitable responses would depend entirely on the context. For example: if the person doing the chores was someone whose husband/wife/partner sat at home on their fat backside and did nothing to help, then responses such as you suggest would be appropriate, together with "That's appalling!"; "Don't put up with it!", or even "Leave home!". On the other hand, if the person was looking after an aged/infirm relative, then appropriate responses might be "Well done"; "You're a star" and so on.
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....
