why do we pray that God should come to us?

Since God is in man, why do we pray that God should come to us?

What does should mean in the above sentence?
    I need native speakers' help.

Re: why do we pray that God should come to us?

    Thanks Matthew

There's a general point to be made here. Everyone reading this forum learned or acquired (that's what native speakers do) English in the second half of the twentieth century, if not more recently. Texts like this were written a long time ago (or were written more recently in a style that apes the old texts). This can make for mistaken interpretations. Look out!
