    3rd Person Present Tense

Which is the correct sentence using 3rd person, present tense. Should it be send or sends?

    a. Mr. Hawkins requests that someone send the data by fax immediately.

    b. Mr. Hawkins requests that someone sends the data by fax immediately.

    Thank you.

    Re: 3rd Person Present Tense

The first. Because of the verb "requests", this calls for the subjunctive.

    Re: 3rd Person Present Tense

In BE, we don't use the subjunctive much.

Most of us would use 'sends'.

    I'd use "send".

    Re: 3rd Person Present Tense

If it's an American text, use a). If it's a British text, you can use either, though most would use b). I think BrE has taken dropping the present subjunctive further than some variants.
