    Top of the morning.

    Hello.
One of my colleagues, at the start of the teachers' meeting this morning, said, 'Top of the morning.'

He said, and I translate his words into English, 'I found the expression in a magazine (dealing with the English language). It said using 'Top of the morning' is cool, and I've just used it instead of 'Good morning.''

I had never heard/read the expression, so I googled it and found this:
    http://www.macmillandictionaryblog.c...ng-to-yourself

Do native speakers use this expression?
    Thank you.

    Re: Top of the morning.

No, not unless they are doing a cod impersonation of an Irish person. Most Irish people would find this kind of impersonation very offensive.

    Re: Top of the morning.

"And the rest of the day to you" is the response.

    Re: Top of the morning.

Or, sarcastically, "and the rest of the day to meself".
