It tells about how everybody was miserable because it was a gross day outside.

The poem "Daddy Fell into the Pond" By Alfred Noyes is a humorous poem. It tells about how everybody was miserable because it was a gross day outside. Near the end of the day, the author's father fell into the pond and everybody burst out laughing. Everybody cheered up and took a picture of it and the day was just better for everyone.

Could anybody tell us the meaning of "gross day", please?

    Thanks in advance!

Who described the day as 'gross'?

Does definition#3 fit the OP's sentence?

    Not a teacher.

I got confused because there were three definitions of 'gross day' given by the respondents.

    not a teacher

I got confused because there were three definitions of 'gross day' given by the respondents.

Used in this way, "gross" means horrendous, unpleasant, disgusting, as indicated by Rover's post and Matthew's link. Tarheel is suggesting the type of weather that might make for a gross day.
