    had/has?

I know what Past and Present Perfect used for but I'm confused with this:

"He knew he has/had scammed me" (I'm telling someone has scammed me 3 months ago)
The red underlined words are confusing me.

What do you find confusing about them?

I think I couldn't use Present Perfect because there are 2 past events (knew and scammed)
And Past Perfect sounds like "He had scammed before he knew"

But the sentence also means "He had scammed when he knew" so should I say in Past Perfect?

    Re: had/has?

"He knew he had scammed me" - In the past, he knew at the time that he had scammed me. "He knows he has scammed me" - He knows at the moment that at some point in the past he scammed me.

Should the simple past 'scammed' be used as it happened three months ago?

    Not a teacher.
