    great circle

Please make the following in red clear for me.

International transactions are always in balance, by definition ... for every buyer there is a seller. But different items in the great circle carry different labels. ...

Does it mean "different products in the world or the earth"? What does "great circle" refer to?

    Thank you.

    Re: great circle

It probably refers to the world, which is believed to be round. More context would help.
