Hi,
I would like to know if this phrase is correct, if a lawsuit between two people can be dubbed something. From what I read, "dub" is used only for new names given to honor the event/person and so on. So it would be a flattery to dub something. In the following case there's no flattery involved. It's just a name that was given to this incident. Does this still work?

The lawsuit between John and his victim's family, dubbed “the new-style murder” made the newspapers’ front page for months.
