stomach lining to death by secondary/second infection.

"Sometimes they get to stuck in their gut or, in the case of fish hooks, can puncture their intestinal or stomach lining to death by secondary infection"

is it possible to put second rather than secondary in this sentence?

The sentence looks incomplete, it doesn't make sense as it is. Are you sure you copied it correctly?

Neither word works. A second infection is an additional one. A secondary infection is one that results from a primary infection, not a fish hook.

Perhaps the sentence can be better re-written as:

"Sometimes they get stuck in their gut, or in the case of fish hooks, can puncture their intestinal or stomach lining, causing death by infection."
