    Help with past tense

I need help in determining which past tense to use in the following sentence: "The young girls ran swiftly up the hillside, as the sun rose." The latter part here being in the past simple tense: "the sun rose". Or is the correct tense for rose Past Perfect Continuous, making this the correct sentence: "The young girls ran swiftly up the hillside, as the sun was rising" ?
Ran is in past simple, and as the rising of the sun occured at the same time, does that mean that simple past should be used for rose as well?

    kind regards, Jørgen.

    Re: Help with past tense

    Welcome to the forum, Jørgen.

You can use either tense. The meaning is the same.

Please note that a better title would have been as the sun rose/was rising.
