    Do we need are here?

Welcome to Philips. Thousands of products are awaiting you.

Do we need are in this statement, and is it the right usage of the word 'awaiting'?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello, Sahanav:

I cannot answer your second question.

But I can tell you with 99% confidence that the "are" is absolutely necessary.

Native speakers will NOT accept: "Thousands of products awaiting you."

"awaiting" is the sign of the progressive. Therefore:

    am / is / are / was / were / will be + awaiting.

Re: Do we need are here?

    Dear Member,

Thanks for the reply. Could you please take a look at this link: http://www.englishpractice.com/vocab...ce-wait-await/

Especially, the last line: We are all waiting for you. (NOT We are all awaiting you.) (NOT We are waiting you.)

    What do you think?

I am thinking of changing it into:

    Thousands of products await you.

Thousands of products are waiting for you.

    Thanks

    Hello,

As I told you, I am not qualified to answer your question. Someone will SOON do so.

I only wanted to point out that IF you use "awaiting," then you need a form of "to be."

As you have been advised before, there is no need to write a new post just to say "Thank you". It makes us think there is new information or a follow-up question and we spend time opening the thread. Simply click on the "Thank" button at the bottom left-hand corner of any post you find helpful.
