    secure customers

I posted the thread on other forum but got no response. Please help me correct it. Thanks!

Why do the manufacturers or stores spend a lot of money on advertising? I think it is because they want to increase the visibility of their own products and increase the customer's favorability of those same products, and so as to secure many customers.

I would replace "...and so as" with "in order to".

You need a "have" between "secure". Otherwise they are making customers safe, which is grammatically correct, but unlikely what you want to say.

check that "favorability" is actually a word in the dictionary. If it is, you can write more clearly:

    Hence:

"Why do the manufacturers or stores spend a lot of money on advertising? I think it is because they want to increase the visibility and customers' favorability of their products, in order to to secure having many customers."

May I say 'so as to attract more customers' instead?

    See this discussion. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/so+as+to

Yes, that is grammatically correct. I wouldn't though, but it may be personal style.
