Distinguishing and usages of a few tenses

I still remain a little confused with past indefinite tense、simple present tense and present perfect tense.Blow are presented the instances:

    1. He wrote a letter. (My guess: Writing occurred before, maybe a few days or a few weeks ago.)

    2. He writes a letter. (My guess: Writing occurs just now, maybe just a few minutes ago.)

    3. He has written a letter. (My guess: Writing occurred before or occurs just now. It's a long span of time.)

(It comes to me suddenly that I can't paragraph my post, why? My laptop functions well.)

Re: Distinguishing and usages of a few tenses

Well, your guesses look OK to me, but I think to really distinguish these tenses (Past Simple and Present Perfect) you have to try to use/read them in some more complex sentences or text, because it often depends on the context.

Re: Distinguishing and usages of a few tenses

There is nothing about "He has written" that suggests a long period of time. And "He wrote" means any time in the past.
