    Synonym for overlook

    Hi teachers,

    He seems to have overlooked one important fact.

    Can I use 'ignore, disregard and neglect' in place of 'overlook'?

    He seems to have ignored/disregarded/neglected one important fact.

    Many thanks.

    Re: Synonym for overlook

    "Ignored/disregarded" give the sense that the fact was ignored/disregarded on purpose. That someone knew the fact, but chose to ignore it.

    "Neglected" can give the sense that someone should have known about the fact, and was guilty of not knowing.

    Both are stronger charges than simply "overlooking" something, which is typically an honest mistake.

    @SoothingDave

    That means "ignore" and "disregard" are the synonyms. If I use one word in a sentence, the other word can take place of it.

    Re: Synonym for overlook

    not a teacher

    'Miss' is a better synonym than 'ignore' or 'disregard' which imply that something is deliberately not included for a reason.
