    What about if...?

    Hello, teachers!

    I've found the following:

What about if you're very fat and you don't have time to exercise? A new fitness pill may soon help you. Scientists are developing a pill that gives the same benefits as exercise. A report says that the fitness pill will build muscle, increase stamina, and even burn fat.

I don't understand the meaning of the phrase "What about if ...?"
Is this "about"necessary in this phrase?
If so, would you let me know what the phrase means?

    I would omit 'about'.

I can't think of an example where it would be necessary.

    Hello, Yamyam.

You have already received the answer to your question about "about."

I just wanted to comment on the meaning of the whole phrase.

I think that it is clear that "What about if" is an ELLIPSIS . That is, there are many missing words. It is probably very difficult (or even impossible) to know what words are missing.

I will tell you how I interpret that sentence. I cannot speak for anyone else.

"Do you want to know what you can do about the situation if you are fat and you don't have time to exercise? Well, I have good news for you: a new fitness piii may soon help you."
