    In my opinion, they are missing one word, "slows". Maybe my sequence is wrong.

    grows (develops)
    glows (radiates)
    slows
    slots (gambling machines)
    slats (splines)
    slate (roofing material)
    state (condition)
    stare (gape)
    snare (trap)
