    Tell me please whether these sentences are correct.

    I want to know the quantity of students in 10 percent of their total number

    1) How many students comprise 15 percent (of their total number)?
    2) How many students does 15 percent comprise? (suspicious)
    3) How many students are there in 15 percent?

    I want to know the percentage of a certain number of students

    2) What percentage do 15 students comprise?
    3) What percentage (of their total number) do 15 students come to ?
    4) What is the percentage of 15 students out of the total of 1040?

    These are unnatural questions. They sound like exam questions. No one would really ask them this way of another person in a normal conversation.
    I) "How many students make up 10 percent of the total?" Answer: "That depends. What's the total number?"; One hundred"; "Ah, then that would make 10 students."
    II) "What percentage of students do 15 students comprise? Answer: "Of the same cohort?"; "Yes"; "Fifteen percent."
    4) "That would be (15/1040)*100 = 1.442%
