    nothing even approaching

Please set me clear on the following in red.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 89% ... It was a virtual wipeout of equity value. We've had nothing even approaching this descent before or since.

Is it saying "We've never experienced such a big plunge (89%) before or since"?

    Thank you.
