I am struggling to write a cover letter for a 'Communications and Events Officer' university position that I am extremely interested in.

It's been a long time since I have had to write a CV/cover letter and would really appreciate some help.

I've read that the most important part of the cover letter is the opening paragraph, which should immediately capture the employers attention.

This is what I have penned down so far....

'In my current role as Production Systems Developer I aspire to provide clear, consistent and readily available information to my colleagues and to encourage better communication between departments whilst supporting a variety of data logging, reporting, instructional, creative and communicative tools'

Does this make sense? Could this be written better? Is this even appropriate?

I welcome any suggestions as I really do want this job.
