"As a result of" and "As a result" are two forms of the same expression. The choice depends on the grammar.
"As a result of the heavy rain, the grass grew taller."
"There was heavy rain. As a result, the grass grew taller".

'Antagonism' is the wrong word. You're probably asking about 'Antonyms'. As you see, they aren't antonyms.

Yes, you can say "Due to the heavy rain, the grass grew taller."
I don't know why you're asking about 'otherwise'. It doesn't fit into this picture at all.
