School is a prison (seeking advice)

    Dear Teachers

I was taught that match singular noun to singular, plural to plural. And, I should add the article "a" in front of a countable noun. But sometimes, i find that a singular noun not appearing after an "article". Below are the list of sentences that I need your advice if they are correct, and if they convey different meanings.

    1. School is a prison
    2. A school is a prison
    3. The school is a prison
    4. Schools are prisons

    Look forward to your comments.

1, 2 and 4 are practically identical in meaning, although you might prefer one of them slightly depending on context. 3 is different in that it refers to one particular school.

Holden, please edit your post and put a full stop (period) at the end of all your sentences.
