"What is that? 'It' is a new kind of toy." Referential or anticipatory it?

    Hey!

I was wondering what form the it in the sentence below is?

"What is that? It is a new kind of toy."

I believe it's referential it as it refers to that in the first sentence, but I'm not entirely sure. Could it be anticipatory?

"It" is a pronoun. It refers back to "that". Different people will call it different things.

Can you remove the question without affecting it in any way? It's an answer to a question in this context. The fact that it could stand-alone is irrelevant to me- it refers back.
