    A chasing after the wind.

Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.

Is "a" optional or obligatory in the phrase "a chasing after the wind"?

    I need native speakers' help.

    It's wrong, in my opinion.

Re: A chasing after the wind.

For me "a" is optional. It has the effect of "an instance of chasing after the wind" -- a futile effort.
