    Transcribing a song

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztj1rGQzjMc

    I do not understand what is singing in (?).

    1
    00:00:17,995 --> 00:00:22,795
    The world was on fire
    and no one could save me but you.

    2
    00:00:26,336 --> 00:00:30,903
    It's strange what desire
    make foolish people do.

    3
    00:00:35,147 --> 00:00:40,247
    I never dreamed
    that I'd meet somebody like you.

    4
    00:00:43,329 --> 00:00:48,549
    And I never dreamed
    that I'd lose somebody like you.

    5
    00:00:51,527 --> 00:00:56,727
    No, I (?) to fall in love.

    6
    00:00:57,276 --> 00:01:00,036
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    7
    00:01:00,101 --> 00:01:05,340
    No, I (?) fall in love.

    8
    00:01:05,405 --> 00:01:08,272
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    9
    00:01:08,769 --> 00:01:09,769
    With you.

    10
    00:01:13,853 --> 00:01:17,279
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    11
    00:01:18,668 --> 00:01:26,281
    What a wicked game to play,
    to make me feel this way.

    12
    00:01:27,184 --> 00:01:34,417
    What a wicked thing to do,
    to let me dream of you.

    13
    00:01:35,797 --> 00:01:42,783
    What a wicked thing to say,
    you never felt this way.

    14
    00:01:44,359 --> 00:01:51,538
    What a wicked thing to do,
    to make me dream of you and...

    15
    00:01:52,107 --> 00:01:56,813
    I (?) fall in love.

    16
    00:01:56,902 --> 00:01:59,769
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    17
    00:02:00,012 --> 00:02:05,052
    No, I (?) fall in love.

    18
    00:02:05,390 --> 00:02:08,257
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    19
    00:02:08,652 --> 00:02:09,652
    With you.

    20
    00:02:34,801 --> 00:02:39,947
    The world was on fire
    and no one could save me but you.

    21
    00:02:43,183 --> 00:02:48,169
    It's strange what desire
    will make foolish people do.

    22
    00:02:51,862 --> 00:02:57,242
    I never dreamed
    that I'd love somebody like you.

    23
    00:03:00,194 --> 00:03:05,627
    And I never dreamed
    that I'd lose somebody like you.

    24
    00:03:08,568 --> 00:03:13,648
    No, I (?) fall in love.

    25
    00:03:13,822 --> 00:03:16,668
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    26
    00:03:17,002 --> 00:03:22,135
    No, I (?) fall in love.

    27
    00:03:22,340 --> 00:03:25,207
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    28
    00:03:25,589 --> 00:03:26,589
    With you.

    29
    00:03:30,670 --> 00:03:34,049
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    30
    00:03:34,161 --> 00:03:38,687
    No, I...

    31
    00:03:39,249 --> 00:03:42,275
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    32
    00:03:47,893 --> 00:03:51,259
    (This (?) is only gonna break your heart)

    33
    00:03:53,023 --> 00:04:00,882
    Nobody loves no one.

    Re: Transcribing a song

    zafar666, this is far too much to expect us to deal with in one post. What is the title of the song and who is the singer?
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: Transcribing a song

    Here's the process, zafar.
    1. Get the title and singer from the video - Chris Isaak - "Wicked Game"

    2. Enter "Chris Isaak - "Wicked Game"" into Google (or your favourite browser).
    3. Immediately find a link like this:CHRIS ISAAK LYRICS - Wicked Game - A-Z Lyrics
    www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/chrisisaak/wickedgame.html
    4. Go to that link

    Your You're welcome.
    See above.

    Please remember that, as a native speaker, learners will assume that everything you write is correct. It's really important to make sure you're not making mistakes/typos like using "your" instead of "you're".

    Ok, there is written ""No, I don't want to fall in love". I thought he had sung "No, I do wanna fall in love".

    But this is not to say that 'Your welcome' is always wrong. But, as a noun phrase, it just needs to be followed by something, like 'Your welcome was less than warm.'

    Right. There is your query:

    I've read the transcript at ....
    But I don't agree with the transcription, after listening to the YouTube clip.
    My particular query relates to the clip at 00.51-00.55: he seems to me to be saying "No, I do wanna fall in love".
    You can't expect us to trawl through 4 minutes of adolescent angst just for the fun of it. Please focus your queries.

    b

    PS But in that case I can tell you that it couldn't be "No, I do wanna fall in love" - unless the speaker was responding to someone saying 'Of course, you don't want to fall in love' - then he could say "No, I do wanna fall in love" (which is unlikely, especially in this context).

    What is happening is something that often happens with 'don't'. The positive is pronounced /du:/ and the negative is pronounced /dǝʊnt/. In other words, just the vowel (/u:/ or /ǝʊ/) is necessaary for a listener to understand. When you speak, you are trying to communicate. If you're feeling lazy, you can get away with saying either /du:/ or /dǝʊ/; but typically what happens, for the negative, is that the speaker says /dǝʊ/ and then closes the mouth, letting the air escape through the nose (making a sound a bit lik /n/). In this case, as the next word is 'wanna' the closed mouth is the right place to start (because the mouth opens during the glide /w/ - that's why it's called a 'glide': the mouth glides from closed to open [it also widens]).

    Well, he didn't. If you watch another version on YouTube with English lyrics, for example the following:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etxHaOghrIM
    you'll see that he doesn't want to fall in love. In the one you gave, the translation reads, "Nấo, eu nấo quero me apaixonar."
    I want to fall in love would be "Eu quero me apaixonar" (Brazilians, correct me if I'm wrong", though Google translate supports this.)*

    The problem is that anyone can give their opinion on the web, and the page is set up so that it looks authoritative. Yes, it sounds like he's missing the "don't" on a few occasions, but that's not consistent with the rest of the of the song. He certainly doesn't sing "No, I do want...", though he might be singing "No, I...I want to ..." But if he is, it's through the laziness of his articulation, and you're meant to fill in the 'don't' mentally.

    *Oh. I just realised that you are Brazilian, zafar).
