    In a consumerist society

    Please would you correct the mistakes in my sentences. I am not sure if they sound proper English.

    1. In a consumerist and materialistic society as ours anyone is bound to feel unhappiness.
    2. John looked at Anna's tacky dress, asking himself if she ever looked at herself in the mirror.

    I would place a comma after "ours" in the first.
