    breed

Hi, I read the definition that breed something (for/as something)---to keep animals or plants in order to produce young ones in a controlled way.

Can I say breed a plant, such as "they started to breed corns in the field where was used to breed cotton."?

    Thanks.

    Re: breed

    I would use 'plant/grow/cultivate'.
When you plant or grow something, you use the seeds, etc to breed/propagate the species of plant.

I would use 'which' instead of 'where', which means ‘at, in or to which’ according to http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionarie...nglish/where_1 Definition#2

    Re: breed

In my experience, 'breed' is hardly ever used for plants.

    I's say

'They started to grow corn (no 's') in the old cotton field'.
