VS

I would consult your daughter's cheer-leading coach or a cheer-leading official before making the purchase.

This was when I was working for a sports apparel outlet.

Are both okay?

:up: I'm not sure why tedmc changed your 'would', as though it were wrong. Maybe it is wrong in the sort of English he speaks (and his use of the subjunctive suggests that is American English - not that it's dead in Br English, but it's dying out). In British English 'I would consult' is fine. There is an implied '[If I were you]' at the beginning.

Maybe I should not have changed the original sentence (1 to 2). There is nothing wrong with No.1 grammatically but I thought No.2 would be clearer.
According to Bob, there is an implied 'if I were you' in front of No. 1. But No.1 could also mean that the shop attendant would personally call up the cheerleading coach to check with him/her. No?
