    Vocabulary

I don't know the meaning of "marginal projects" and "a drop off" in this sentence:

But analysts expect this change to result only in a drop off of marginal projects.

    Please help me.

    Thanks

    Re: Vocabulary

In the economic sense, marginal projects are projects that are of low priority and are not favoured for reasons such as low profitability and potential.
'Drop off' means to leave/abandon such projects.

    Re: Vocabulary

Thanks, but I don't think so
This is an extract of Energy Minute: Solar Power's Future Looks Brighter and Brighter by John Howell for 3BL Media.

"What's driving this growth? Until recently, federal loan guarantees and state subsidies were given as the answer. But many of those initiatives have expired. One of the largest remaining ones, the federal government's solar-investment tax, is scheduled to drop from 30 to 10 percent in 2017. But analysts expect this change to result only in a drop off of marginal projects. It's another drop that's driving today's solar power market: a rapid and steep decrease in the cost of photovoltaic panels."

    Could you help me?

    Thanks
