    Pakistan are

    Hi teachers,

I was watching a test match between Pakistan and Australia.

"Pakistan are 534 runs ahead". Why did they use the plural verb?

    Thanks.

    Re: Pakistan are

There's a difference between AmE and BrE.
You're likely to hear "our team is going to win tonight" in the UK and "our team are going to win tonight" in the US.

I suppose the context is about the pakistan team.

Please, correct all my mistakes. I should know English perfectly and if you show me my mistakes I will achieve my dream a little bit faster. A lot of thanks.

    Re: Pakistan are

You are more likely to hear "Our team are..." in BrE, Boris.

    Re: Pakistan are

I disagree with Boris on this one. In the US you'd hear "Pakistan is 534 runs ahead." In BrE, it's are.

    Re: Pakistan are

BTW, in what kind of match/sport can a team score 534 runs?
