Hello to all of you. My question is about an expression that I found in the lyrics of a famous hit by Bob Dylan. It goes like this:
If you're black you might as well not show up on the street,
Unless you wanna draw the heat.Thank you in advance.

    Re: Lyrics

"The heat" is one of many slang terms used to describe the police. In this case, "draw the heat" = "attract the attention of the police."

In some places, it is believed that if you are black you are automatically considered to be suspicious by law enforcement.
