Why should I add "s" after the word of purpose?

Hi, can anyone tell me why Why I should add "s" after the word of purpose in the following sentence?

-For security purposes, the room doors will be locked.

I think it is not necessary to add a 's' but someone tell me it is necessary.

You add an 'S' to 'purpose' to pluralise the word. The room doors being locked is just one of the security measures being taken, but there are more.

    I hope this helps :)

We would also say for security reasons, so it's not just the word purpose.
