    Hi teachers,

Is "People get handsome pay in XXX (country's name)" correct?

    Thanks.

    Re: People get handsome

Your sentence is correct, but it would be more natural to say "People are well paid in XXX".

    Re: People get handsome

'Handsome pay' is a strange collocation, but this BNC search finds it - ranked 265. 'Handsome profit' is ranked 7, and 'handsome profits' 40. 'Handsome wage' comes in at #208. 'Well paid' is more likely, but the phrase 'paid handsomely' is occasionally used - chiefly in Victorian melodramas: 'Get the young heiress to walk this way and you'll be paid handsomely for your trouble.'

PS Here's a paid handsomely link.
