    Help with a preposition please

Incorrect: It will become in a controversial topic this year.

Correct: It will become a controversial topic this year.

    Are both of them correct?
why the preposition IN is wrong there?

Re: Help with a preposition please

The direct object of the verb is "a controversial topic". The word "in" does not fit there.
