Exclamation Present Simple and Present Continuous for the Future

    Hi,

Which sentence is correct and WHY?

    1) Listen. The band plays at the Star Club next Friday. Do you want to go?
    2) Listen. The band is playing at the Star Club next Friday. Do you want to go?

I would personally say that #2 is the correct one, but as the Present Simple can also be used for the Future to talk about schedules, timetables, programmed events, etc. I'm not sure. And I can't explain why is it that I wouldn't use sentence #1.

    Can you help me, please?
    Thanks,
    mblmusk

#2 is more colloquial in my experience.
