Hello.

Recently I did a test and wrote the following sentence:

Never in my life I have felt so frightened.

And I was instantly corrected by the software: Never in my life have I felt so frightened. Does it really make that big difference? If it does, is there any grammar reference that can help me explain the rule to other people?

Thank you.

Yes, it makes a difference. Your sentence was not grammatical. When we change the word order so that the sentence starts with "never", we reverse the subject and the verb.

I have never seen anything so disgusting.
Never have I seen anything so disgusting.

I have never been so frightened.
Never have I been so frightened.

My brother has never looked so ridiculous.
Never has my brother looked so ridiculous.
