The last time I went to a restaurant was five days ago.

    Always capitalise 'I'.

It shouldn't be there. Your sentence is the kind of thing you will hear people say, but it is better without it.

Re: The last time i went to a restaurant it was 5 days ago.

You need the 'it' in "The last time I went to a restaurant it was raining."

    The reason is this:
"The last time was 5 days ago" Good.
"The last time it was raining. Good.
*"The last time was raining." Not Good.
*"The last time it was 5 days ago." Not Good.
All I've done here is left out the dependent clause "[that] I went to a restaurant".
